Research Ethics
JACEDB reserves the right to decline any manuscript that demonstrates unethical practices in research involving human participants or animals.
Human Research
- Manuscripts reporting studies involving human participants must explicitly state that ethical approval was obtained from an appropriate authority, or provide a clear justification if such approval was not required.
- The manuscript must include the name of the ethics committee or Institutional Review Board (IRB), the approval number or reference ID, the date of approval, and confirmation that informed consent was obtained from participants (or a justification where consent was not required).
- Authors must confirm that the study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
- Clinical trials must be prospectively registered—prior to the enrollment of participants—and the trial registration number must be clearly stated in the manuscript.
- Where submitted images contain identifiable individuals, authors must ensure that:
- Written consent for publication has been obtained; and
- Participant anonymity is adequately protected (e.g., through cropping or masking facial features such as the eyes/eyebrows using coarse pixelation).
Animal Research
- Manuscripts describing research involving animals must provide:
- Details of ethical approval obtained from the relevant review authority;
- Information regarding applicable licenses (e.g., Animal [Scientific Procedures] Act 1986, where relevant); and
- A statement specifying the national and/or institutional guidelines followed for the care and use of laboratory animals.
The Editorial Office reserves the right to request additional information or clarification regarding experimental procedures when deemed necessary.
