Conflicts of Interest
JACEDB complies with the uniform requirements for disclosure of conflicts of interest established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
- Participants
A conflict of interest exists when an author (or their affiliated institution), reviewer, editor, or member of the editorial board has financial or personal relationships with individuals or organizations that could inappropriately influence, or be perceived to influence, their professional judgment. The presence of such relationships does not necessarily imply misconduct or actual bias; however, the potential for perceived or real conflicts must be transparently disclosed.
Financial relationships—including employment, consultancies, stock ownership or equity interests, honoraria, paid expert testimony, and patent applications or registrations—are among the most readily identifiable sources of potential conflict. These relationships may compromise, or be perceived to compromise, the credibility of the journal, the authors, and the scientific integrity of the published work.
- Reporting Conflicts of Interest
All submitted manuscripts must include a dedicated section entitled “Conflicts of Interest.” In this section, authors are required to provide a clear and complete disclosure of any actual or potential conflicts. Each author’s initials should be included, accompanied by a specific description of the relevant relationships or interests.
If no conflicts exist, the statement should explicitly indicate this. The recommended format is as follows:
- With conflicts:
“MH reports receiving honoraria from XYZ Pharmaceuticals. AB declares consultancy fees from ABC Diagnostics. All other authors declare no conflicts of interest.” - Without conflicts:
“The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest.”
Full transparency in disclosure is essential to maintaining trust, objectivity, and scientific credibility in the publication process.
