About the Journal

The Faculty of Social Sciences publishes two regular journals. The most recent issue of annual Bangla journal is titled Samajik Bigyan Patrika (Dhaka University Studies, Part D) Vol. 11 No. 11, has been published in December 2017. The biannual English journal is titled Social Science Review (Dhaka University Studies, Part D) Vol. 34 No. 1, has been published in June 2017. The editorial panels of these two journals are comprised of academics from different disciplines of social sciences of Dhaka University. Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim, Dean of the Faculty, is the Editor of these two regularly published journals. The journals can be collected from the Deans’ Office of Faculty of Social Sciences.

Social Science Review (SSR) is a flagship publication of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka. It is a bi-annual double-blind peer-reviewed Journal published in January and July by the Registrar, University of Dhaka. This journal accepts original research articles in the broader field of social sciences from the faculties of the University of Dhaka as well as other reputed universities. Interested scholars affiliated with research institutions may also submit their research papers.

Review Process

Introduction

The review process is an important part of the publication process. It helps an editor in making decisions on an article and also enables the author to improve the paper. We follow the blind review process, wherein the author and reviewer remain anonymous throughout the process. Before accepting to review a manuscript, reviewers should ensure that:

  • the manuscript is within their area of expertise.
  • they can dedicate the appropriate time to conduct a critical review of the manuscript.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts are confidential materials given to a reviewer in trust for the sole purpose of critical evaluation. Reviewers should ensure that the review process is confidential. Details of the manuscript and the review process should remain confidential during and after the review process.

Plagiarism

Social Science Review and the Faculty of Social Sciences take issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism or other breaches of best practice in publication very seriously. We seek to protect the rights of our authors and we always investigate claims of plagiarism or misuse of published articles. Equally, we seek to protect the reputation of the journal against malpractice. Submitted articles may be checked with duplication-checking software. Where an article, for example, is found to have plagiarised other work or included third-party copyright material without permission or with insufficient acknowledgement, or where the authorship of the article is contested, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to: publishing an erratum or corrigendum (correction); retracting the article; taking up the matter with the head of department or dean of the author's institution and/or relevant academic bodies or societies; or taking appropriate legal action.

Fairness

Reviews should be honest and objective. Reviewers should not be influenced by:

  • The origin of the manuscript
  • Religious, political or cultural viewpoint of the author
  • Gender, race, ethnicity or citizenry of the author

Review reports

In evaluating a manuscript, reviewers should focus on the following:

  • Originality
  • Contribution to the field
  • Quality of paper
  • Clarity of presentation
  • Depth of research

Reviewers should also:

  • Observe that the author(s) have followed the instruction for authors, editorial policies, and publication ethics.
  • Observe that the appropriate journal’s reporting guidelines are followed

Reviewers should not rewrite the manuscript; however necessary corrections and suggestions for improvements should be made.

 Deadlines for review submission

Finished reviews of an article should be completed within the deadline given. If you do not think you can complete the review within this time frame, please let the editor know.

Recommendations

 Reviewers’ recommendation should be either:

  • Accept Submission
  • Revision Required
  • Resubmit for Review
  • Resubmit Elsewhere

Publication Frequency

The Social Science Review (SSR) is published twice in a year (June and December)

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Article Processing Fees

There is no any article processing fees.
