BJSIR Author Guidelines

Bangladesh Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research (BJSIR), a globally recognized Journal, publishes original article, short communications and reviews on all aspects of scientific, agricultural and industrial research. BJSIR is published by the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). Four issues in a year (March, June, September and December) both in printed and online version are published. Online version is available at www.banglajol.info.

Manuscript Submission, Processing and Publication Charges:
The journal does not charge for submission, processing and publication of the manuscripts.

Submission of papers
Manuscripts (2 hard copies) accompanied by a covering letter should be sent to: Editor, Bangladesh Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dr. Qudrat-I-Khuda Road, Dhaka-1205, Bangladesh. After the acceptance, author must submit the softcopy in CD.

During the submission of the manuscript, a clear indication about the corresponding author is obligatory. Corresponding author will be responsible for the correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, including post-publication. Ensure that telephone and fax numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address of the corresponding author. Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors.

While submitting the manuscript the authors are encouraged to provide the names of three potential reviewers in the respective fields. The authors should also provide a running title of their manuscript.

Original material
Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language. Editor reserves the right to reject a paper even before reviewing if he/she does not find any scientific value/ reliability in the paper.

Peer Review Process

• A manuscript will be reviewed for possible publication with the understanding that it is being submitted to BJSIR alone at that point in time and has not been published anywhere, simultaneously submitted, or already accepted for publication elsewhere.
• The journal expects that authors would authorize one of them to correspond with the Journal for all matters related to the manuscript.
• All manuscripts received are duly acknowledged and given a Manuscript Number.
• On submission, editors review all the submitted manuscripts initially for suitability for a formal review. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific or technical flaws, or lack of a significant message may be rejected before proceeding for a formal peer-review. Manuscripts that are unlikely to be of interest to the BJSIR readers are also liable to be rejected at this stage itself.
• Manuscript that is found suitable for publication in BJSIR is sent to one expert reviewer for Peer Review.
• The Journal follows a double blind review process, wherein the reviewer and author are unaware of each other’s identity.
• Every manuscript is also assigned to a member of the editorial team, who based on the comments from the reviewers takes a final decision on the manuscript.
• The comments and suggestions (acceptance/ rejection/ amendments in manuscript) received from reviewers are conveyed to the corresponding author. If required, the author is requested to provide a point by point response to reviewers’ comments and submit a revised version of the manuscript. This process is repeated till reviewers and editors are satisfied with the manuscript.
• Manuscripts accepted for publication are copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format.
• Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author. The corresponding author is expected to return the corrected proofs within three days. It may not be possible to incorporate corrections received after that period. 
• To achieve faster and greater dissemination of knowledge and information, the journal accepts articles within one month.

Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts usually consist of the following sections: Title, Author’s information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and methods, Results and discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgement and References. Unnecessary subheadings should be avoided in the text of the manuscript. However unavoidable subheadings should be in Italics. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, 1.5 or double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number of manuscript pages will be consecutive throughout the paper.

Title: The title should be chosen for its information content and should not exceed 15 running words. The first letter of the consecutive words of the title should be typed in lower case and no comma should be in the title.

Author’s information: The name(s) of the author(s) and address of the institutions where research work were done should be indicated on the manuscript. Authors name will be according to the following sequence: First and middle name in abbreviated form while the last name should be fully spelled out. e.g. M. Z. Amin, M. H. Rahman and M. A. Sattar. Superscript used to identify the authors’ affiliation should be numerical.

Abstract: Each paper should be provided with an abstract of about 100-150 words, describing concisely the purpose and results of the research work.

Keywords: Each paper should be provided with 5-6 keywords that will reflect whole work.

Introduction: A brief and specific literature review with objectives of the research work and necessary background should be represented in the introduction.

Materials and methods: New or less known method should be illustrated clearly; with citation of references for established std. no. should be mentioned. The information should be clear and complete so that anyone interested in repeating the experiment should be able to do so. The section should clearly indicate the experimental design followed and the statistical methods used to summarize information for interpretation.

Results and discussion: Results should be presented comprehensibly and appropriately linked to tables, figures and other illustrations. The findings should be compared with those of others, as considered necessary by the authors with citation of reference and its relevance to be discussed. New findings, new interpretations, etc should be clearly indicated. S.I. unit must be provided throughout the manuscript.

Tables / Figures: Tables (numbered in Roman) and Figures (numbered in numerical) should be provided in separate pages at the end of text. No vertical line will appear in the Table. All provided pictures must be clearly printed in black & white, good quality with laser printer.

Conclusion: Main findings of the investigations should be written in the conclusion.

Acknowledgement: It should be included in brief if necessary.

References: The cited references must be listed in alphabetical order of the author’s name, year of publication, title and other details at the end of the text. References inside the text should be written by the last name of the author name and year of publication (Wallis, 1996). In case of two authors references should be (Wallis and Wearne, 1996) and if more than two, reference should be written as (Wallis et al. 1996). Reference style should be as follows:

Journal article: Seckin B, Turkan I, Sekmen AH and Ozfidan C (2010), The role of antioxidant defense system at differential salt tolerance of Hordeum marinum Huds. (sea barleygrass) and Hordeum vulgareL. (cultivated burley), Environ Exp Bot. 69: 76-85.

No abbreviation should be used for the journals having single name; e.g. Nature.

“Personal communication”; “In preparation”; “Unpublished results” etc. should not be cited in the reference list but in the text.
