Abstract

Bangladesh is among the most disaster-prone countries in the world. The country faces increasing risks from several natural hazards e.g. cyclones, floods, and landslides every year due to its geographical and climatic conditions. Therefore, the present study was an attempt to examine the development of disaster management research in Bangladesh from 2000 to 2024, identifying key trends, research gaps, and future directions in this domain. Based on an analysis of over 50 peer-reviewed articles and policy documents, the present research identifies seven specific thematic areas: community resilience, policy and governance, disaster management cycle, climate change integration, technological advancements, healthcare systems, and gender inclusion. The findings emphasize two distinctive aspects; first, continuing challenges in this area such as inadequate local governance, limited resources, and a lack of gender inclusion; and second, notable advancements in community-based initiatives and legislative frameworks. This assessment would contribute to scholarly discussions and policy development aimed at enhancing Bangladesh’s disaster resilience.
