Abstract

The reactions between substituted chalcones 1a-d with ethyl cyanoacetate 2 were carried out in 1:1 molar ratio in the presence of sodium ethoxide as catalyst under refluxing condition to synthesize few chalcone derivatives, ethyl 3,5- (disubstituted phenyl)-2-isocyano-5-oxopentanoate, 3a-d. The structure of the compounds was determined by their chemical properties, UV, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectral data and elemental analyses.
