About the Journal
Aim and Scope:
Bangladesh Renal Journal (BReJ) is the official publication dedicated to advancing knowledge in nephrology and related disciplines. The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, case reports, and short communications focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of kidney diseases.
Its scope covers clinical nephrology, dialysis, renal transplantation, hypertension, renal pathology, and experimental studies related to renal physiology and pathophysiology.
The journal aims to serve nephrologists, internists, transplant surgeons, pathologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals involved in kidney health and disease management, particularly in Bangladesh and other developing regions.
Peer-Review System
The Bangladesh Renal Journal is a peer-reviewed scientific publication that maintains a rigorous and transparent evaluation process to ensure the quality, originality, and integrity of all published articles.
Initial Assessment
Upon submission, each manuscript is first screened by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Section Editor to ensure it falls within the journal’s scope and meets basic quality and ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to authors without external review.
Type of Review
The Bangladesh Renal Journal employs a double-blind peer-review system, in which both the authors’ and reviewers’ identities are kept confidential throughout the review process to ensure impartial and unbiased evaluation.
Reviewer Selection and Number of Reviewers
Each manuscript is typically evaluated by two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. In some cases—such as multidisciplinary or complex studies—a third reviewer may be invited to provide additional input. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, academic credentials, and absence of conflicts of interest.
Review Criteria
- Reviewers are asked to assess:
- Originality and significance of the study
- Scientific rigor and methodological soundness
- Ethical compliance
- Clarity of presentation and quality of data
- Relevance to the field of nephrology
Duration of Review Process
The initial peer-review process generally takes 4 to 6 weeks from the date of reviewer invitation. Authors are notified promptly of the editorial decision and provided with constructive feedback. Revised manuscripts may undergo a second round of review if substantial changes are made.
Editorial Decision
After receiving the reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board, makes the final decision on whether the manuscript will be accepted, revised, or rejected. The editorial decision is guided by the reviewers’ recommendations but is ultimately the responsibility of the editorial team.
Ethical Guidelines
BReJ maintains strict ethical standards to ensure responsible research practices. Authors must certify that their work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and adheres to ethical research principles. Research involving human subjects must comply with recognised ethical protocols, including informed consent and confidentiality protections. Plagiarism, data manipulation, and any form of unethical conduct will result in immediate rejection.
Conflict of interest
