In order to comprehend the root causes, effects and responses to crime of an area, as well as to suggest measures for crime prevention in that area, it is necessary to analyze and map crime incidents of that region. The aim of this study was to examine and map home invasions as one of the significant security risks across various residential areas in Ogbomoso of Oyo State as case study. A multi-stage sampling approach was employed to gather primary data, which was subsequently summarized with descriptive statistics. Chi-square analysis was utilized to draw inferences from the data. The findings indicate no significant differences in the socio-economic characteristics of respondents concerning home invasion patterns, except for housebreaking incidents across different residential densities. The primary causes of home invasion were identified as an ostentatious display of wealth (36%), unemployment (31%), and poverty (23%). The consequences of home invasions predominantly encompass fear of staying at home and apprehension of becoming the next victim (86%). Responses to home invasions were largely centered on elevated residential fencing (33%) and the engagement of local guards. The study concluded that home invasions are prevalent in Ogbomoso, varying in magnitude and type across residential densities. This issue is a significant concern for the community, characterized by distinct forms, patterns, and causes. Therefore, the study advocates for enhanced collaboration between the community and law enforcement authorities to improve community policing initiatives for more effective measures to prevent home invasions.
