The increase in Caesarean Sections, particularly elective ones, has become a major concern in the field of maternal healthcare, reflecting larger trends in obstetric practices and constitutes important questions about the factors driving this decision. This study specifically investigates the determinants of Elective Caesarean Sections by focusing exclusively on the caesarean cases among Bangladeshi women. Using a restricted sample of caesarean cases, we employed univariate, bivariate, and logistic regression analyses to discern the key factors associated with elective cesarean sections. Our results indicate that higher maternal education, advanced maternal age at birth, exposure to media, higher wealth index, having a qualified antenatal care provider, higher birth order, multiple births, previous cesarean deliveries, and pre-eclampsia are significant predictors of elective caesarean sections. These findings highlight the multifaceted nature of elective caesarean decisions and suggest that socio-economic, educational, and medical factors play crucial roles. Addressing these determinants can lead to more informed decision-making and potentially optimize cesarean delivery practices in Bangladesh.
