Statistical approaches were employed to assess wind energy of Dinajpur, northern Bangladesh, using monthly average wind speed data collected from 2019 to 2023. The wind energy potential of the region was assessed by analyzing its wind characteristics and power density using the Weibull (WB) and Rayleigh (RL) distributions. The results indicate that wind speeds (WS) reach their maximum values during April, whereas the lowest speeds are observed in October. The values of varies from 2.329 to 3.5, whereas the values of ranges from 2.923 m/s and 3.125 m/s. Both statistical models show distribution pattern of wind speed satisfactorily; however, Weibull distribution provides slightly superior fit to the observed data. In contrast, the Rayleigh model yields comparatively smaller errors in wind power density (WPD) estimation. Considerable yearly variation in WPD is also observed over the five-year study period, with the highest potential occurring in 2022. The outcomes of the study improve understanding of wind characteristics in Dinajpur and may assist in future wind energy planning and turbine deployment in northern Bangladesh.
