Author Guidelines

The JME papers should be clear, concise, and complete, with assumptions plainly identified and data presented with precise logic, and with actual accomplishments of the work clearly stated and honestly appraised.

ELEMENTS OF THE PAPER
The elements of the paper are listed below in the order in which they should appear: title, author names and affiliations, abstract, nomenclature, body of paper, figures and tables, acknowledgments, references, appendices, etc.

Title: The title of the paper should be concise and definitive.

Author Names and Affiliations: All those who have participated significantly in the technical aspects of a paper be recognized as co-authors or cited in the acknowledgments.

Abstract: A short abstract (150 words maximum) should open the paper to give a clear indication of the objective, scope, and results of the paper so that readers may determine whether the full text will be of particular interest to them.

Keywords: Four to five keywords should be included.

Nomenclature: The nomenclature list should be in alphabetical order (capital letters first, followed by lowercase letters, Greek symbols, subscripts and superscripts) identified with headings.

BODY OF THE PAPER The text should be organized into logical parts or sections. The purpose of the paper, or the author's aim, should be stated at the beginning so that the reader will have a clear concept of the paper's objective. This should be followed by a description of the problem, the means of solution, and any other information necessary to properly qualify the results presented and the conclusions. Finally, the results should be presented in an orderly form, followed by the author's conclusions. Only original contributions to the engineering literature, not previously published, are accepted for publication. Under certain circumstances, reviews, or analyses of information previously published may be acceptable. SI Units should be used. When other customary units are given preference, the SI equivalent should be provided in parentheses.

Mathematics: Equations should be numbered consecutively beginning with (1) to the end of the paper, including any appendices. The number should be enclosed in parentheses (as shown above) and right adjusted on the same line as the equation. Equations should be referenced within the text as "Eq. (x)." When the reference to an equation begins a sentence, it should be spelled out, e.g., "Equation (x)."

Figures: Figures (graphs, line drawings, photographs, etc.) should be numbered consecutively and have a caption consisting of the figure number and a brief title of the figure. Figures should be referenced within the text as "Fig. 1." When the reference to a figure begins a sentence, the abbreviation "Fig." should be spelled out, e.g., "Figure 1." Figures may be inserted as part of the text as close as possible to its first reference.

Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively and have a caption consisting of the table number and a brief title. Tables may be inserted as part of the text as close as possible to its first reference.

Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments may be made to individuals or institutions not mentioned elsewhere in the paper who have made an important contribution.

References: Within the text, references should be cited in numerical order according to their order of appearance. The numbered reference citation should be enclosed in superscripts.

Example: It was shown by Prusa1 that the width of the plume decreases under these conditions. In the case of two citations, the numbers should be separated by a comma1,2. In the case of more than two reference citations, the numbers should be separated by a dash5-7. References to original sources for cited material should be listed together at the end of the paper. References should be arranged in numerical order according to their order of appearance within the text.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT
The text of the manuscript should be prepared in 12 point fonts with single column and double line space on A4 size paper. Figures and tables should be appended after the text with a list of them. Two sets of original hard copies along with one soft copy in .doc format (preferably in a CD) of the manuscript should be sent to the following address. Submission through email is also accepted. Original manuscripts may be submitted throughout the year. Please send three copies of the manuscript along with an electronic copy to the following address.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. When available, the URLs to access references online are provided, including those for open access versions of the reference. The URLs are ready to click (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca).
  4. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review) have been followed.
